The Center for Michigan, the nonprofit publisher of Bridge Michigan and BridgeDetroit, has released its 2024 annual report.

The 36-page document provides detailed information on center operations last year, such as revenue, readership, community involvement, reporting accomplishments and staff changes.

"When we finish preparing the report, we always end up saying to ourselves, 'Wow, what a year!'," said Katy Locker, CEO of the Center for Michigan. "We're proud of another year of high-impact journalism that touched and fulfilled our mission of making Michigan better through journalism."

The report — which is available here — shows that Bridge Michigan raised over $1 million from nearly 8,400 individuals in 2024, the seventh consecutive year of increased donations.

The report highlights major philanthropic contributors and, in the interest of transparency, lists individuals and organizations who donate more than $1,000 annually.

The report further includes the center's statement of values, which was established in 2022.

Among those values is building an engaged civic community. More than 500 people participated in Bridge Michigan’s series of Lunch Break events in 2024, which covered topics ranging from the Flint water crisis to the transition to electric vehicles.

BridgeDetroit used its series of community conversations to build relationships with readers and explore issues that impact them, ranging from a panel on reparations to a refugee resource fair. Its conversation on transit issues helped a taxi driver who was experiencing homelessness and had been featured in a BridgeDetroit story get help securing an apartment.

Bridge Michigan continued a year of impactful reporting, including an Elections FAQ series, a comprehensive Voter’s Guide and accountability journalism about Michigan’s corporate incentives, electric vehicle battery investments and handling of the opioid crisis.

Bridge also continued to bolster its ranks in 2024, adding two deputy editors and a second executive editor to lead innovation efforts.
