The Center for Michigan, the nonprofit nonpartisan publisher of Bridge Michigan and BridgeDetroit, has released its annual report for 2022.
The 25-page report provides a host of information about readership, revenue, initiatives, reporting, its staff, major initiatives, readership demographics and the impact of both publications’ reporting and community engagement.
The report shows The Center for Michigan raised over $1 million in donations from nearly 9,000 donors in 2022. As part of an effort to be transparent and accountable, the Center also lists not only major philanthropic donors, but also individuals and groups who give more than $1,000 per year.

The report also includes the Center’s statement of values, which was created in 2022, and mission of “making Michigan better through high-quality nonpartisan journalism and engagement.”
“The annual report reflects the pride in our team and our work,” said Katy Locker, chief executive officer of The Center for Michigan.
“But more importantly, it reflects our accountability to our readers, donors and partners. We believe that sharing our values, who funds us, and our approach to the work is critical transparency so that our readers continue to trust us and invest in us.”
In addition to growth in revenue, Bridge Michigan and BridgeDetroit have experienced growth in readership and engagement events, anchored by steady expansion in its reporting ranks as well as events such as the Bridge Michigan Book Club, which has been rebranded the Bridge Culture Club.
The report also highlights a year of transition at the Center. In January, Locker, who had been chief operating officer, became chief executive officer, succeeding John Bebow, who now serves as publisher.
