There are few things better than a Michigan summer. Long days spent traveling across the state, from the shores of Lake Huron to the rolling hills of west Michigan, are a reminder of what makes this Great Lake State so special. At Bridge Michigan, we know that great stories aren’t told from behind a desk. They happen when reporters hit the road and meet people face-to-face in communities across the state.
Readers like you make it possible for Bridge Michigan to deliver public-service journalism that fosters understanding, connection, and growth. As a nonprofit newsroom, this work simply would not happen without your support.
The Bridge Michigan summer fundraising campaign, which runs through Aug. 27,has an important goal: to raise $25,000 to fund journalists’ travel across Michigan. In an era when media freedom is under attack and misinformation spreads quickly, being on the ground matters more than ever. In-person reporting builds trust, captures events as they unfold and produces the accurate, unbiased journalism Michiganders deserve.
Travel brings Michigan’s stories to life, from the Upper Peninsula to the Thumb, Grand Rapids to the western shores of Lake Erie. Face-to-face conversations foster the trust and understanding that enable more in-depth and complete reporting. Reader contributions cover the gas, lodging, and time it takes to deliver trusted journalism. A typical trip from Lansing to Muskegon or Alpena to Grayling can cost $100 to $200 in travel expenses alone. In the coming weeks, more will be shared about why this travel makes all the difference in Bridge Michigan reporting.
Will you contribute to our summer campaign and help send Bridge Michigan journalists where the stories are?
Thank you for helping us go the distance for Michigan journalism.
