This fall, something refreshing is happening across Michigan. Bridge Michigan journalists and leadership are leaving the office and traveling to communities from mid-Michigan to Richmond, Battle Creek and throughout the Upper Peninsula.

We are there not only to report, but also listen.

On a recent morning in Macomb County, we gathered with residents at the Richmond Community Center over coffee. We asked: What kinds of information is often overlooked by those outside your community? What does the future look like for your town? What do candidates for governor need to understand about life here to better serve rural residents?

The conversations were honest and insightful. We heard about the challenge of finding affordable housing for young families. We learned about nonprofits working to fill gaps left when local news outlets disappeared. We heard how rural areas often feel forgotten in Lansing.

This is journalism done differently. And it only happens because of readers like you.  Today, we’re launching our fall campaign with a goal to raise $30,000 to support our community-centered approach to journalism. Your contribution ensures we can:

  • Continue hosting listening sessions in communities across Michigan so we can report on the issues important to communities of all sizes.
  • Expand our 2026 election coverage to reflect what we’re hearing from you.
  • Travel to where the stories and people are to report firsthand accounts.
  • Keep our reporting responsive to what matters most to Michiganders.

Our fall campaign continues through November 1. Will you contribute and help us keep showing up for Michigan’s communities?

With gratitude,
