Bridge Michigan is expanding again, seeking two deputy new editors and a Capitol reporter to help lead our high-quality journalism that aspires to make Michigan a better place.

Bridge, a four-time Michigan Press Association “Newspaper of the Year,” is doubling its editor ranks, adding to a team of 20 staffers. The editors will help handle Bridge’s signature blend of in-depth, nonpartisan enterprise and investigative journalism and daily stories.

The expansion follows a year in which Bridge also added its first breaking news reporter and digital marketing associate and moved to hire an additional executive editor to handle daily news operations.

“These new hires will help Bridge reach the next level of public service journalism,” said Katy Locker, chief executive officer of The Center for Michigan, Bridge’s nonprofit publisher. “We’re incredibly grateful for our members and partners who enable us to continue our great growth while ensuring a sustainable and successful workplace for our team.”

The two deputy editors will report to separate executive editors. While both will be involved in general editing and newsroom management, one of the deputy positions will focus more on editing and directing enterprise reporting, while the other will focus more on Capitol and political coverage and breaking news.

The Capitol reporter will join two reporters in our Lansing bureau who cover politics and state government.

The Capitol beat is designed to give the successful applicant time to work on both enterprise and daily news coverage. The two current reporters are experienced, collaborative and will bend over backwards to help colleagues produce the best work of their career.

These are great jobs on a great team that has grown steadily over the past 10 years and is supported by secure funding.
