• Education reporter Isabel Lohman to lead a discussion about improving Michigan schools with experts and educators
  • Time for the Sept. 24 Bridge Lunch Break has been moved to after school hours to accommodate educators.
  • Readers can submit questions prior to the conversation as well as during the live Zoom chat

Bridge Michigan invites readers to a free Zoom discussion on Sept. 24 from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m., focused on our recent reporting on the state of education in Michigan.

The typically lunch-hour event has moved to after school hours to allow educators and administrators to participate.

In a series of stories, Bridge reporters found that despite more money, more staffing and years of attempted reforms, Michigan schools are sliding farther behind other states in key educational outcomes.

Bridge Michigan’s Isabel Lohman will lead a conversation with Adrea Truckenmiller, Associate Professor of Special Education at Michigan State University, Marguerite Roza, Research Professor at Georgetown University and Director of the Edunomics Lab, and Beth Gonzalez, Deputy Superintendent of Educational Services at Wayne RESA about what can be done to improve Michigan schools. She’ll be joined by fellow reporters Ron French and Mike Wilkinson.

Participants can ask questions of the panelists via the Zoom chat feature throughout the event or submit a question prior to the event by filling out this form.

Please register for the event here via Eventbrite to be sent a calendar invitation, including the Zoom link.

Bridge’s monthly Lunch Break series focuses on timely topics facing our state. Previous events have discussed the collapse of the whitefish population in the lower Great Lakes, Michigan summer tourism, the changing landscape of deer hunting in the state, spending of Michigan’s opioid settlement funds, solutions to gun violence in Michigan, Michigan’s population crisis, youth mental health in Michigan and the legacy of the automotive industry on the state’s environment and economy.
