LANSING —  Abortion is one of the top issues in this year’s election, and widespread support of access has prompted many in the Republican Party to change their tunes from opposition.

That’s one takeaway from the latest Bridge Michigan elections FAQ online show on Monday, when Capitol reporter Jordyn Hermani said candidates are taking a page straight from the book of former President Donald Trump on the issue.

“A majority of people, not just in Michigan but in this country do support abortion with exceptions … and you’re starting to see that reflected at the national level with how Donald Trump speaks of abortion,” Hermani said, noting many Republicans are saying it’s now a matter left up to the states.

At the same time, some Democrats — including presidential nominee Kamala Harris — are tip toeing a fine line about federal policies surrounding electric vehicles. That’s especially true in Michigan, where fears about job losses because of the transition from gas-powered cars are paramount.
