Democrat Abdul El-Sayed and Republican Mike Rogers will debate Thursday night in Michigan’s closely watched US Senate race.
The live event is set to start at 7 p.m. in Grand Rapids, with WOOD-TV’s Rick Albin moderating.

It’s the first of two planned debates between El-Sayed and Rogers, who are locked in a fierce battle to replace retiring US Sen. Gary Peters, a Democrat. Top issues in the campaign include affordability, healthcare, the Iran war and more.
The race is considered a true “toss-up” and one of the closest in the country.
Republicans believe Rogers has a legitimate chance to flip the seat, but it’s a key race for Democrats, who are optimistic they can retake control of the Senate for the final two years of President Donald Trump’s term.
