Bridge Culture Club returns from noon to 1 p.m. Monday, May 18, to discuss “Waterline,” a debut novel by University of Michigan creative writing instructor Aram Mrjoian, set in Grosse Ile.

Named a best book of 2025 by Esquire, the book focuses on an Armenian family and explores how relatives experience the same events differently, from the Armenian genocide to present-day Michigan.

The event features Mrjoian, who is the managing editor of U-M’s Michigan Quarterly Review and a member of the master of fine arts faculty at the Rainier Writing Workshop.

Mrjoian will answer questions about the novel, which the Chicago Review of Books described as a “stunning debut” told with “poetic introspection and grounded realism.”
